Gentle tatters, some sad news today.
My grandmother's fragile health has been failing for the past few weeks. This great, elegant lady died five minutes before midnight last night. She was 101. (Her 102 birthday was coming up - August 20, 2010.)
There is no doubt in my mind that she will be greeted by throngs of family and friends who have gone before her. Once she has reunited with them, the tatting angels will gather to welcome her home.
You can read more about her in my tatting ancestry.
Here is a photo of the three of us together.

Goodness, look at those glasses, I am glad I don't wear those anymore. ツ
Gran was the one who taught me to tat. She out-lived every member of her immediate family. Hers was a life well and fully lived, and she was ready to go.
So while my heart is heavy today, I take heart in the many fond memories I have of her. And I proudly carry the lace legacy into the future.
Funeral arrangements are being made for Monday, so I will be out of town for Tatting Tea Tuesday on July 20th. I beg your indulgence as my parent's home does not have Internet access.
In lieu of condolences, it would make my heart glad if you spend a few moments tatting and celebrating the tatters in your life whoever or where ever they may be.
Rest peacefully and tat with the angels, my beloved mentor, elder and friend. You will be sorely missed.
my condolences to you and your family. also sending a little tatting love! take care!

ReplyDeleteMy grandmother was terribly important to me,so I understand your greif at losing your beloved Gran. I will certainly be thinking of you, from all the way in Brisbane. How wonderful, though, that she lived long enough for your baby to perhaps have some memories of her.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteShe was surely a special, elegant lady, it's obvious to me seeing the photos.
What a wonderful legacy she has left, someone to carry on with tatting and the joy of sharing it with others. May God be with you and your family now and always. I tatted a few butterflies in her memory.
ReplyDeleteKnow how you are feeling at the moment, such a lovely woman, but oh what treasured memories you must have of your grandmother.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely name she had. She sounds wonderful. hang on to those happy memories and keep that safe in your heart.
ReplyDeleteShe will be tatting with my mum who would have been 102 on July 17th.
What a lovely thought.Mum would be so please to greet another tatter. What events they will have to talk about. To have lived through the last 100 years must be amazing, so many changes...but tatting was still tatting.
As a Grandmother, I hope that my grands remember me as lovingly as you obviously will always remember your grandmother. Bless her heart.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you dear friend, May God's love wrap you in the warmth of His love. And I promise to tat something especially in remembrance of your wonderful grandmother.
my love and friendship, Beverly
